Use Case: Internal social network

nevaal Maps can visualize a company’s internal social network but also help the network expand rapidly

In this article, we want to introduce you to the idea of using an internal social network based on graph technology. That means the workers of a company can get in touch with each other, discover new counterparts, or discuss work topics in a sparse social environment.

nevaal MapsTM contain several features that lets workers get in touch with each other. Additionally we add analytic functions so that the companies can make use of the upcoming data.

nevaal MapsTM can solve the problem in the following ways:

● Problem solving: The users can ask other users for help in solving a work-related problem.

● Ideas and input generating: Users can store materials like scientific articles, newspaper articles, tutorial videos or drafts in topic-related folders and can share it with specific users or groups.

● Social feedback: Users can share their success stories, congratulate others or say ‘thank you’ for support.

● Status updates and notifications: Users can let others know about their holiday times, current projects or upcoming events.

● Profile: People can share their skills and interests in their profile and can be found when somebody is looking for expertise in the field.

● Filter function: It is possible to use filter functions to get a direct view on an aspect of interest.

● Path finding: You can find out through which people you are connected to other persons and which similarities you share with someone.

● Trends in topics: The recently most discussed topic on the platform will be displayed in a trend chart and the related threads can be accessed from there.

The implemented functions give you access to a broad network and a resulting broad range of information. It means that employers can quickly get access to material and get an insight into experiences made by affiliates of their organization. Working with a sparse social network has proven to be more successful than just having access to a dense network. The reason for that can be seen in the following examples:

A businessman on the stairs buttons his fancy darkblue suit

A person who does a risky deal is likely to only contact close colleagues which means a narrow range of information will be considered. Social hierarchies are also very influential in dense networks, a factor that is known to impede innovation and taking controlled risk. Therefore a digital social network platform will contribute tremendously to improved business decisions. Moreover an implementation of similar systems has resulted in a noticeable reduction of administration costs for many well-known corporates.
